Hey Donk...isn't Darkness the absence of Light...and so Light doesn't depend on Darkness to exist? I guess it depends on from where you look at it...

In a way, darkness is the absence of light, yes, but at the same time, light would be meaningless without the existence of darkness.

You could transpose this to nature. Life seems to strive for the creation of organized structures, and thus order. But at the same time, the universe itself seems to strive for entropy, and thus chaos. So they are apparent polar opposites, where one (i.e. the entropy) is the absence of the other (i.e. life). But life would be meaningless without the existence of non-life.

By consequence, one could posit that Creation is recursive/re-entrant, i.e. Creation is comprised both of that which has been created — and thus, that which exists — and that which hasn't been created. Hmm... It's getting complicated...

I've always thought of it this way:

Order is entropy, Chaos is expansion, the 1 and the zero.

Humans are inherently agents of entropy; that's why our cities look like cancer or a disease when photographed from a distance.

most humans are very comfortable with entropy; chaos makes us nervous.

I always thought the cities looked like nerve ganglia with dendrites and axons connecting them.

They look like sores or tumors to me. If a clean river runs through a city it will exit polluted. Cities are septic and consume resources like a tumor. Millions of people producing mainly money magic value and little to eat.

toxicity is does dependent... or, IMO, population density dependent.... Any time we take a natural system and distill it down to a powerful concentrate; if we don't keep in mind that we have created a potential dangerous or helpful tool (but both sides of the coin exist) then we aren't following the right path....

I don't think the negatives of dense populations are being dealt with at all, or at least; not very well... we didn't properly respect the power of the tool.

I just listened to this, and am putting it here because Rad's favored narrative (I'm a fan of it myself) is the first I've heard in awhile that speaks directly to my "experiment" or idea I been working on (and have almost concluded is a lost cause)...it's nice to hear someone believing it to be a dream that can be realized:

Thanks Vern, I get pretty relentless over things I'm passionate about...and while I haven't given up on trying to make any of the realities I live the best that I can make it, this particular one I feel I need to back off from for a bit as I recognize not everyone shares your view. I'll be back in a bit, hopefully with a fresher way to express my perspective
