Easy path to be a Doer: Just one thing, every day.

So motivation, that's a limited asset, some of us have more than others; I think I'm personally a bit low on the motivation scale.

Starting something was always an issue (and then.. haha, finishing it).

But the joy of being a free willed individual is this: we don't HAVE to give into our emotions (or lack of them) we don't have to do anything we don't want to do.

When I didn't want to be un-motivated (that restless feeling hit me now and then), I just did something; for a while it was random things.. clean a bit or do laundry or something similar.

That helped a bit, but not really; at the time I wasn't super clear on the source of the restless feeling.

So about 4 years ago I decided to "just do one thing a day" (I used to say "one good thing" but I don't think even that distinction is needed), minimum.

But there's two caveats, it has to be public & it has to be in support of your personal philosophy.

Not this hasn't translated into me being a super hero, mostly I pick up trash, or hitch hikers, or help someone with a situation they need help with (pulled many cars out of ditches with my truck... haha). I don't plan it out, I just stay open to what ever comes to me (some times it's just pick up a piece or two of trash, or grab a few grocery carts that are clogging up the public parking and bring them to where they go etc..). If I'm walking somewhere, any trash along the way is a target and most the time I don't have to take more than a step or two extra to do it. (

This is how I started on my "Doer" path, I've modified my personal agreement with myself since then and learned a bit, even started a business based on this idea with my wife about 3 years ago... a habit takes around 4 weeks of repetition and then it just feels natural.

When ever I need a little booster shot of motivation I use media inoculation like this:

We are amazing, and can literally do anything we put our minds to... go out AND DO!

    Great example just now:

I stopped by HomeDepot to get some project supplies on the way home, went for my usual grab an abandoned cart on the way in and found a new looking tablet in the cart. I asked a few people in the area if it was theirs. no one claimed it.

So I went in side and asked about a "lost and found" and the guy I asked it too had just spoke to the owner who was looking for his lost item, he ran out side and gave it to him.

Those are the kinds of transactions I'm looking for; BE the good will you want to see in others... who knows how it will affect them

That's a good story, TargeT. That's the kind of stuff I taught my son when I was raising him.

Most of us live the "red and green" hat story

we both see the stranger, but we are arguing weather the green hat or red hat is the correct one... this is how we live... and there is NO alternative.

What alternative is offered by the tale we are modernly offered?

    Source: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eCmrlqcJfsM

    What color is the hat?

This is an example of a socially discussed difference in opinion, they were all right and all wrong...does it matter?

how is the perspective of green or red wrong, or right?

does social feed back matter that much, do we have to wear a green hat?

What if it's both,,,, what if we are so ready for confrontation that green or red means the same thing, effectively to the person that is observing what will "WE" do?

    why has the message changed?

The you tube links aren't working right for you TargeT. If you use video links it should work fine. I've just been redoing your links. (The C2C video problems are all about You Tube)

In Scouting, there is the Scout Slogan, "Do a Good Turn Daily". There is also the equally valuable Scout Motto, "Be Prepared".
I'm sure that's where my idea originated from, I only made it to Webelos however.

Kind of funny, since I used to give "prepper" lectures in Alaska as a part of another group I was active in at the time. I guess I paid attention in boyscouts ... haha

Not gonna lie, I tied one on last night (long day, baby horse got injured and we had to do emergency surgery to put an abdominal mesh in, but we didn't have any abdominal mesh available so we used some make shift crap to hold the intestines in, baby might not live (but I REALLY hope he does).. .I went to the bar after that)... I wasn't probably at my highest functional level when posting the youtube video

I'd love to know how a hundred people feel about what makes a satisfying day. My answer would be different depending on if you caught me before, during, or after raising my child (and husband)

I bet your answers would involve you being active though, right? DOING things?

A tangent on comfort and stress:

It's funny, we are always avoiding stresses, we are always making our lives comfortable and easy. But human's don't thrive in comfort and ease, in fact, we decline.

Stress is how we get better, stress is what motivates us, stress is what inspires us (Necessity is the mother of all invention). The only way muscles grow is through the stress of exercise (your muscles develop micro rips, that's why you are sore the next day) Stress should not be avoided, it should be embraced!

    Source: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3aDXM5H-Fuw

we need to learn to respond in a healthy way to stress, not avoid it. Put your self in an uncomfortable position (yoga anyone?), you'll only get better.
