Absolutely agree and I've been meaning to recommend that episode on here since I saw it.

I normally dislike Shermer quite a lot. I find him pretty rude and quite arrogant. I did just watch an interview between him and Jordan Peterson which was very interesting and went a little bit of the way to redeem Shermer in my eyes. He was actually still a bit rude in the Peterson interview but maybe that's just how he is.

You're right, he is rude. He demonstrates arrogance. He could possibly be learning.

He's on Rogan again but not in a debate as before. He has to be a little more polite because he's being interviewed rather than playing his role as 'skeptic'.

I put that in quotes because he's straight out admitted several times that he doesn't have to do any research or prove anything. He says the burden is on the other person. So he can just deny, throw out fallacies and argue without ever having to research anything other than to have some simulacrum of knowledge. And sometimes that's all it seems he has.

So I avoided listening to this one but maybe I will now, just to see how he tries to defend what he does. He uses a lot of fallacies. I looked up fallacies once and there are so many different kinds. OMG.

I'm listening to the whole show, it's good so far. I understand now better where Joe is coming from when he asks the question, do men/do women have more/less interest in pursuing certain careers/activities.

Jordan makes a great point about looking to the extremes in order to see where the differences between the genders really stand out. He's also great at differentiating between natural abilities, interests, and intelligence.

Here's the whole thing. Well worth the listen, imo.

At 2:03:40 Jordan confesses that he's figured out how to monetize social justice warriors. Joe gets a good laugh out of it.

Near the end, at 2:42 they speak of Trump, Charlottesville, and racism. There're some nice, concise observations here.

    ***

I'm on a roll w/the Jordan Peterson/Rogan shows. In #958 at 1:33 they speak of Kek and Kekistan. At this point, May 2017, Joe knows the frog Pepe but not the connection to Kek and Kekistan. I'm gonna quote Jordan here, this is lusciously ironic to me:

"...Kek was an Egyptian God, and he was a frog, and he was between categories. Sorta like a transexual, by the way." Joe lets out an "Ooh" worthy of Trevor Noah's big jar.
Jaime pulls up an image of the memorial to the 2015-2016 Meme War and Joe reads the words and says, "What in the ---- is going on?" and throws his arms up and Jordan says, "That's the question you've been asking me. And my answer was I don't know, we're in a period of chaos...[wherein] the time horizon shrinks."

At this point Joe had not yet been familiarized with the term 'normies'.

    ***

In #877 at 36 min. Jordan talks about the space between categories: "...[C]haos...ensues when you start to blow up standard categories. There is a chaos in between categories that is made up of an infinite multiplicity."

So... agents of chaos on both sides and, as Jordan observes, conservatives are better at order. Hmmm...

Seconded, I feel like JP is hitting a lot of good points at the moment. He did a pretty good interview with Dave Ruben and Ben Shapiro the other day on Daves channel.

I'm no conservative by any stretch and disagree with a lot of what Ben Shapiro has to say but it is, in the very least, quite interesting.

What I'm also finding interesting is there seems to be more conservative types willing to have discussions with the (lets call them) "the new left" and said new left being very close minded and labelling anyone who doesn't agree with them Hitler!

In Dave's previous video he makes mention of the "intellectual dark web" which isn't a bad way to look at it. It's great to see people like him and Joe willing to talk to almost anyone, getting a real dialogue going rather than just slinging insults. Now if they could just pick up on some of the topics that the denizens of TOT know to be equally (or more) important.

As a professional skeptic Shermer is weak...

People have been throwing around Hitler epithets for a long time. It's not a driving force on the left. It's an extreme. The right-wing extreme has much more power in America because they are and have been better at organizing.

This is something Jordan talks about. Conservatives are better at order.

I witnessed first-hand the closing of dialogue during the Gingrich years. It was a very ordered march-step.

When he launched his Christian Coalition, solidifying the Southern Strategy, he had to teach Republicans not to dialogue with the Democrats, not to talk to liberals or the media. It was a mission to label all media liberal while simultaneously making it a bad word. Ralph Reed who headed the Coalition spoke with pride about turning liberal and progressive into bad words.

There's a reason Ann Coulter writes books called, How to Talk to a Liberal, If you Have to. And they're New York Times bestsellers. That's not her own creativity. She's capitalizing on political and social division. It's been a conservative way of life for my entire adult life. (see Rush Limbaugh, et al)

Liberals are weak. Wishy-washy. Bleeding hearts. Flip-floppers. Do-Nothings.

How is it such a group has had such power and sway? How is it they've mastered all of this horror?

The answer is, they haven't. In my experience it's mostly a matter of convenience to acknowledge that the Clintons were actually pretty conservative. My Dad was not afraid to point that out. He did it regularly. He was a lifelong Republican and conservative.

What did they think the long-term outcome was going to be? It's crocodile tears, complaining that liberals won't dialogue. And incredibly dangerous to have injected fundamentalist religion into our politics. It does not protect the Constitution. The Bible comes first for a helluva lot of voters. Who are Trump supporters.

Jordan understands that humans have differences. His very real/actual concern is the codification of law that tries to define what human is/isn't. It's very dangerous.

In our country, although we have crazy left-wing trends in Universities, the ordered, political trend has not been in that direction at all. Both parties have moved to the right. The Democrats are not and have not been the primary driving force since Reagan.

The younger demographic wants real dialogue. Not diatribe. They're not eschewing labels because they want to be neuters. They want to get past the division that has been palpable their entire lives.

Everyone who has any common sense needs to get together and dialogue. However you can find a way. Good leadership doesn't come from the extremes.

This segment is about chemtrails and geoengineering. The guest is a debunker, Mick West.

At 23:40 they talk about acronyms. It's just like Aragorn says...

I just meant that the Hitler/Nazi epithet seems to be more common these days, at least amongst and in reference to certain groups.

I was actually talking more about the non-political realm (i.e. outside of Governmental systems), but not just in Universities. Seems to be a lot of polarisation on both sides and people who would normally sit more towards the centre getting dragged in to what I guess could be called "identity politics". I've seen it with some of my peer group.

I don't know whether it's move to the "right" by political parties as so much as it's a move towards authoritarianism.

I don't know if I'm as optimistic about the younger demographic (which I normally very much am). For the most part I'm generally seeing the oppressor/oppressed mentality.

I heard a couple of segments with Jordan on Fox News and another interview and he sounded like a nutcase. I was quite disappointed. I understand why he said on Joe's show that he has to be careful so he doesn't say something stupid. Boy did he.
