This one's for our sister Elen. ;)
The picture in the thumbnail of the video reads "Los Lobotomys", and Luke did indeed record the "Candyman" album with the jam band Los Lobotomys, but the album was sold separately in the USA and Japan as a Los Lobotomys album and in the rest of the world as a Steve Lukather album.
This particular song is a tribute to the deceased Toto co-founder and drummer Jeff Porcaro (1954-1992), who introduced and mentored Steve Lukather into the world of session work. They were very close friends, and alongside of his work in Toto, Jeff Porcaro also starred as the original drummer of Los Lobotomys. Jeff's death shook up Toto really hard and although they initially intended to call it quits, Jeff's family insisted that Toto would continue to exist, which is when Steve Lukather then took over as band leader.
The cirumstances of Jeff Porcaro's death are a bit controversial as well. The official Toto communiqué on the matter stated that he had passed away after having accidentally inhaled pesticides which he was spraying in his garden, but the offficial coroner's report stated that he had died because of arterial hardening as the result of cocaine abuse. With Steve Porcaro (keyboards) having left Toto earlier in order to commit himself to making motion picture sound scores, this left only one of the three Porcaro brothers in the band, i.e. Mike Porcaro (bass guitar).
Unfortunately, Mike himself was diagnosed with ALS somewhere around the middle of the past decade and had to be replaced on tour by session musicians. Once again, Toto was rather mysterious about Mike's absence from the band when on tour, putting it down to that he had hurt his hand. Mike Porcaro passed away peacefully in his sleep in 2015 as the result of his affliction with ALS. Although Toto had officially disbanded shortly before that, Steve Lukather brought the band back together for a reunion tour and a new album, and the current lineup once again features Steve Porcaro on keyboards and synthesizers, alongside veteran Toto keyboard player David Paich.
The drummer who replaced Jeff Porcaro in Toto was Simon Phillips, and he also took over from Jeff in Los Lobotomys. However Simon Phillips has in the meantime also already left Toto again and has been replaced by Shannon Forrest. I'm not sure whether Los Lobotomys still exists as a band today.
This is really beautiful, Aragorn.
Thank you Arargorn, I really enjoy those guitar solos. :smiley-dance013: So gentle.
OK, you may think that the name Ylvis is a derivation of Elvis. Maybe, but it is the part of the Sir name of the brothers called Ylvis. Ylvisåker. I guess that would have happened in growing up, getting a nickname. Here is one more song from them and this is to get the numbers up. I will continue with them here on the Lounge thread for this purpose.

Still didn't know what happened
When you knocked upon my door
The things you had, the life you lived
All the dreams you had before
Your eyes were facin' your heart and soul
You know they said it all
What happened on that day back then
The moment hurt us all
Now you can see the reason why not everyone's the same
And you don't have to please them, or try hard to save your name
They said you'd never get anywhere
Well they don't care and it's just not fair
That you know, and I know better
They said you'd never get anywhere
Well they don't care and it's just not fair
That you know, and I know better
(yes I do)
Well the days go by and you wonder why, "is this really true?"
Your heart says "No" but your feelings show the poor baby never knew
But you and I, we knew deep down, that ain't really you
We always knew that it'd work out right and we could start a new
Now you can see the reason why not everyone's the same
And you don't have to please them, or try hard to save your name
They said you'd never get anywhere
Well they don't care and it's just not fair
That you know, and I know better
They said you'd never get anywhere
Well they don't care and it's just not fair
That you know, and I know better
Well things ain't always what they seem
So wake up and get outta your dreams
Things ain't always what they seem so wake up
Well things ain't always what they seem
Wake up man, you're in my dreams
Things ain't alwaaaaays
Oh now you can see the reason why not everyone's the same
And you don't have to please them, or try hard
They said you'd never get anywhere
Well they don't care and it's just not fair
That you know, and I know better
They said you'd never get anywhere
Well they don't care and it's just not fair
That you know, and I know better
They said you'd never get anywhere
Well they don't care and it's just not fair
That you know, and I know better
A one, two, three, four, they said you'd never get anywhere,
Well they don't care and it's just not faaaair-air-air
You're never gonna get anywhere
That's what they tell me
Never, never, never, never, never, never, never gonna get anywhere
They don't care, and that's not fair
They said you'd never get anywhere
They don't care and it's just not fair
That you know, and I know better

I looked up the Screaming Jets. They have a new recording and are going to tour. That's a good long time playing together.
This is a song which made the top of the charts here in Europe in 1986. Even though the singer, Antonella Rugierro, has already long left the band, the other band members stuck with the band name Matia Bazar — Matia was actually Antonella's stage name before she joined the band.
The video as I'm embedding it here-below is of poor visual quality, but I specifically wanted to post this version — it's a performance during an Italian TV show — because, although the music itself was taken from the song's actual studio recording, Antonella herself does sing live here, and of all the videos on YouTube where she sings this song live, this is the only version where she sustains that very long high note just like she does it on the album version of the song. It is undoubtedly a very difficult thing to do — even with her vocal range, which at the time spanned 4 octaves! — especially while combining the singing with dancing, which is why she normally wouldn't do this during live performances.
The above in mind, I would specifically like to draw the viewer's attention to the passage from 03:31 onward, where she is singing in a single breath, setting in that particular high note at 03:32 and sustaining that note uninterruptedly until 03:43, for which the audience rewards her with a well-deserved warm applause.
I still get goosebumps and cold sweat every time I hear her doing this. (As I said, this is also how she did it in the actual recording, but then of course she would probably have been comfortably seated at the studio without having to dance and maintain a credible stage presence.)
Just for comparison, here's another live performance of the song, this time with the entire music score being played live — which in itself adds some interesting touches to the song as well, and most notably from the guitarist — but here, Antonella does not sustain that long note.
I was away for six hours and this is still the last post in the forum. So much for Ubuntu, or contributionism.:fpalm:
And oldie but a goodie. ;)
