Amazingly, it didn't bother me. He also did not practice incessantly. I was somewhat concerned about whether he would continue, whether he had enough drive/motivation. It seems he maximized his practice time because he managed to get in the jazz ensemble and get some paid gigs.
He works now teaching environmental science to adolescents at an outdoor school. They do a music activity each week and he drums and plays the guitar. His girlfriend has an amazing voice. They sometimes make music together. (literally and figuratively, I suppose:love:)
