Well, I don't go tooling around in my yacht while lining my pockets with money from a failing industry where I know my constituents will lose their jobs which I keep telling them will be protected because I just want to get re-elected and keep lining my pockets because there's never enough....

Also, people aren't "waking up" or becoming smarter. They are growing dumber by the day, and they are not protesting against the elites out of any social awareness or sense of justice. They're doing it out of self-interest ─ usually of the financial-economical variety ─ and out of a general lack of respect.
There is a distinct difference between being a rebel against an oppressor and being a selfish hooligan with oppositional-defiant disorder, just as there is a difference between a Messiah and a morally corrupt narcissist.
Back to the topic. People who forsake simple logic and deliberate fact checking, when they are presented with a body of work, by an online guru, that reinforces their beliefs, while flattering them, at the same time, are a real danger.
I figure we could end up with international fascism, just because so many on the right have been so bombarded with half truths that take advantage of their pre-existing beliefs. And, beneath the veneer of upholding freedom and individualism, is always the specter of tribalism and bigotry.
People aren't stupid as individuals. They become stupid when they get together and form echo chambers that revolve around some guru or another.
