they sell as strawberry planters and i don't see why would they not be suitable for lettuces.
happy planning..i can't wait myself for the weather to warm up just a little, so i can start my small projects. having said that, i don't look forward to fighting slugs&snail devils once again..so much clay here.
Hey Ria,
Did you work out a solution in the end? Am curious to see how you got on :)
Been wanting to go the hydroponics/aquaponics route myself. This year due to lack of money, I just tried planting strawberries in a wooden pallet backed with weed fabric. Seems to be doing well so far and am expecting a fair bit of fruit from it. Will take some pictures before they get picked, if I remember.
Cheers,
As yet I have not Tarra,
However I am developing a vertical / wall garden, all be it small.
Following... Interesting topic.
If they hired more 'basement hydroponics experts' to set up indoor vegetable growing farms you could double our food supplies within a year.Quote:
Careful with hydroponic lighting Ria, a large amount of busts are purely down to observant police helicopters seeing lighting the rays from miles above!
Just saying......not that I am a cultivator of natures greatest plant or anything....

Your right, it would.
Except I don't have a basement.
I was looking for something that would fit into a long narrow space.
Any way the idea is still on the to do list.
I was thinking about about the police issue, I was thinking maybe just call them up and tell them about it and say come and have a look.
You might be alright if you do that. It would save you getting raided at 5am in the morning one day. Or start a blogspot and notify them. When I knew people who grew plants in their basement, they said they could catch you by noticing the spikes in electricity consumption. Grow lights consume a lot of power.
If you are legit + legal you'll have no problems. More than a few people have proved you can get good vegetable yields in a tiny space. Square foot gardening will help a lot of people in the future.

FWIW, it is my understanding that when growing veggies, you do not want to use the same lights as are used for indoor cannabis cultivation. Those lights are specifically designed for the needs of cannabis. You actually can grow veggies with a lot less wattage. Also the light spectrum is different.
Sorry, I don't have the details at hand, but with the above you could research more for yourself if you are so inclined.
