FOR THOSE WHO'VE BEEN LIVING UNDER A ROCK FOR THE PAST 50 YEARS...

... You are without honor and we therefore sentence you to a lifelong imprisonment with forced labor in the dilithium mines of Rura Penthe. Qapla!

:ha: :ha: :ha:

This year — 2016 as I'm writing this — marks the 50th anniversary of the Star Trek franchise (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Star_Trek) created by the late Gene Roddenberry (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gene_Roddenberry), which apart from the original series (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Star_Trek:_The_Original_Series) also spawned several theatrical motion pictures, three sequel series set roughly 100 years into the future from the events of the original series (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Star_Trek:_The_Original_Series), two prequel series — one of which is set to air in 2017 — as well as an animated series and several novels.

The franchise was rebooted (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Star_Trek#2009_.22reboot.22) in 2009 by J.J. Abrams (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/J._J._Abrams) by way of a theatrical motion picture, simply named "Star Trek" (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Star_Trek_(film)). This reboot has in itself also already spawned two sequel movies — "Star Trek Into Darkness" (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Star_Trek_Into_Darkness) and "Star Trek Beyond" (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Star_Trek_Beyond), both also produced by J.J. Abrams (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/J._J._Abrams). However, the rebooted franchise takes place on another time line — called "the Kelvin time line" by its producers — and is therefore not consistent with the characterizations and canon from the original franchise. The only original cast member who appeared in (the first two movies of) the rebooted franchise was the recently deceased Leonard Nimoy (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Leonard_Nimoy), portraying the elder version of Spock (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spock), who had been thrown back in time from the future and onto the Kelvin time line of the rebooted franchise, where he would then also come to meet the alternate time line version of his younger self, played by Zachary Quinto (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zachary_Quinto).

Several actors from the original franchise have in the meantime also created an independent and crowd-funded new (mini-)series, called Renegades (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Star_Trek:_Renegades) — originally called "Star Trek: Renegades" — of which the full-length pilot episode can be watched here at The One Truth (http://jandeane81.com/threads/8957-Star-Trek-Renegades-(full-movie-in-HD)). This series takes place in the 24th century, 10 years after the return of the starship USS Voyager (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/USS_Voyager_%28Star_Trek%29) from the Delta Quadrant.

THE 2016 LAS VEGAS 50th ANNIVERSARY CONVENTION

Given that the Star Trek franchise (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Star_Trek) is now 50 years old, several of the actors from the cast of the original franchise have in the meantime already passed away, as well as that not every surviving cast member from the original franchise was available for the celebratory convention due to other commitments. Also, because of non-disclosure agreements, most of the cast members present at the reunion were not at liberty to speak about the upcoming Star Trek: Discovery (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Star_Trek:_Discovery) series. Lastly, given that the reboot by J.J. Abrams (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Star_Trek#2009_.22reboot.22) takes place on another time line, none of the cast of those movies were present at this convention.

Because of the limitations regarding the embedding of videos into a single post, I am going to break up the different sessions of the convention across multiple posts, grouped together per series and consistent with the chronology of their production. The items in the list here-below are clickable links that will take you straight to the pertinent sections of this thread. ;)

I like the set they are using. Never went for Enterprise series.

The Enterprise series was pretty good in terms of the acting and the chosen story arcs, but considering that the time frame of that series is set roughly 100 years before the events of The Original Series, it does take some getting used to the absence of the very advanced technology we've come to see in TOS, TNG, DS9 and VOY.

For instance, the crew of the Enterprise NX-01 (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Enterprise_%28NX-01%29) only ever uses their transporter room — of which they have only one — in the event of emergencies, because the Earth-developed version of this technology is still new and untrusted, and there have been a number of transporter-related deaths. So for most part, they will travel to and from a planet or another ship by way of a shuttle craft. (Other civilizations appearing in the series do however already routinely use transporter technology.)

Likewise, while the Romulans, the Klingons, the Vulcans, the Andorians and several other civilizations already possess disruptor technology, the Enterprise NX-01 (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Enterprise_%28NX-01%29) and its crew don't even have phaser technology yet. As you probably well know, phasers are similar to (but technically more complex than) disruptors, and will become the standard directed energy weapon of Starfleet during the 23rd century. In the official pilot episode of The Original Series, "Where No Man Has Gone Before" (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Where_No_Man_Has_Gone_Before), the crew of the Enterprise NCC-1701 (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/USS_Enterprise_(NCC-1701)) carry laser pistols, although a single phaser rifle is seen carried by Spock, and ultimately used by Kirk. In the The Next Generation episode "A Matter Of Time" (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A_Matter_of_Time_%28Star_Trek:_The_Next_Generation %29), Lt. Worf also remarks that "phasers did not exist yet [within the Federation] in the 22nd century."

The crew of the Enterprise NX-01 (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Enterprise_%28NX-01%29) uses a type of plasma weapon at first, which is then later on replaced by so-called phase pistols as sidearms and by three ship-mounted phase cannons — two fore, one aft. These phase pistols appear similar to a phaser or a disruptor, but they are much less powerful and they only have two settings: "stun" and "kill" — the latter merely causing a fatal burn injury, rather than that they would disintegrate the target. The Enterprise NX-01 (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Enterprise_%28NX-01%29) also doesn't have any shields. Instead, it polarizes the hull, giving the plating more of an armor-type quality.

My personal favorite character on Enterprise was T'Pol, played by Jolene Blalock (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jolene_Blalock), who was unfortunately not present at this celebratory convention, even though she normally does attend the conventions. As a Vulcan, her character was very interesting. She even had a sense of (dry) humor about her.

Although T'Pol was originally pushed onto Captain Archer as an attachée by the Vulcan High Command — who during the era of the Enterprise series are rather meddlesome, conservative and controlling, and who appear to be withholding more advanced technology from humans because they don't trust them — her loyalty to Archer would eventually cause her to go directly in against the Vulcan High Command. T'Pol is also to a large extent co-responsible for a positive evolution in the conservative Vulcan attitude, both on account of how Vulcans think of (and interact with) humans and other species, and on account of Vulcan society itself — starting with Soval, the Vulcan ambassador on Earth.

Last but not least, the producers had fitted T'Pol with a tight cat suit as her uniform. Needless to say, all of her curves were in the right places, which made her very pleasant to look at... :p

I will have to reconsider watching. I have to admit, my disdain for plastic surgery and fake breasts turned me of to Blalock. One of the reasons I never watched. I can overcome that and look at the series and acting while averting my gaze from the plastic flesh character.

Um, then perhaps you know more than I do, Radagast, because to the best of my knowledge, Jolene Blalock does not have any breast implants and has not undergone any other forms of plastic surgery either. In fact, I believe she is very much in favor of staying "all natural".

I could of course be wrong. ;) :hmm:

Well, I found this.

May 18, 2002 - Jolene Blalock was on the Howard Stern Show on Friday to talk about the TV show 'Enterprise'. Howard quizzed Jolene on who she's dating and Jolene said she's dating the CEO of Clear Channel Entertainment (which would be Brian Becker). Jolene says she's happy on the show and is tied up with it for the next couple of years. Later, Jolene was quizzed on whether her boobs were real - she said she had a boob job about 10 years ago, when she was about 17. She claims that they're only a B-cup and they only look so big because she has such a small frame.

And this:

Miami plastic surgeon Dr. Michael Salzhauer says, “Jolene Blalock has definitely had her lips augmented with some type of dermal filler or even fat. When over-injected, lips will tend to look straight and tight. Some call this a trout pout. Her perfectly smooth forehead and slight lift to her brows is most certainly a result of Botox injections.”

I had a rather revolting conversation a few years back with a man who approached me with the opening line, "Nice boob job." I never had one and why he would think so us beyond my ken. He claimed he was complimenting me. I replied, "Because you thought I had surgery." He then proceeded to tell me it's not surgery.

Really? I can just go down to the drug store and get a boob job kit then?:fpalm:

Well, okay, then I was wrong about that. ;) So she's had a boob job. Well, it's not that conspicuous. As for the Botox, I'm not so sure about that. She would only have been 27 years old back when "Enterprise" was made, so I doubt whether a young woman of that age would already need to resort to Botox injections. We're either way not talking of Pamela Anderson here, where it really shows that she's all plastic. ;)

Plastic surgery notwithstanding, Jolene is a very good actress, and the development of her character was also very interesting to watch. I believe there was also an episode (or possibly a multi-episode story arc) where she played an alternate time line version of herself with a very different appearance and very different characteristics. This episode or story arc may have been related to the "mirror universe" theme that regularly kept on showing up in DS9.

Sadly enough, ENT was broadcast on a commercial network over here — on Sunday afternoons — and as such, they didn't broadcast the whole series, so I never saw the pertinent episode(s). The network simply suddenly stopped showing new episodes and started broadcasting reruns of older episodes from the same season without any prior announcement, and then after a while, they ultimately stopped broadcasting the series altogether and switched to an entirely different series or program for that time slot.

They did the same thing with "Stargate: SG-1" and "Stargate: Atlantis", by the way. I hated it when they did that, and I also hated that they were ridiculously inconsistent with their programming. One week, the series would be on at a given hour, the next week, it started half an hour sooner, or half an hour later, and so on. So I couldn't even reliably program my VCR to record the episode in order to watch it later.

Also, sometimes they would not show the weekly episode and would instead just commandeer the programmed time slot for a soccer game for a couple of weeks or so, and their programming was never consistent with the program listings in the TV magazines — neither with regard to the exact time that the show was on, nor with regard to what exactly they were going to be broadcasting that day. So for instance, the program listing in the magazines would say that "Stargate: Atlantis" was on at 16:35, but they would instead start broadcasting an "important" soccer game at 16:10, which then lasted until 17:55, followed by a commercial block and then the news at 18:00 or something. Soccer games — which I hate — were also the only thing they would not interrupt with annoying commercial blocks every 15 minutes.

It drove me up the walls. Those series were the only reason why I would ever watch any of the commercial networks in the first place. Whoever did their programming must have had a bad case of ADHD.

I read a few good ones like this the other day, the stupidest things people had ever heard someone else say. Among them:

"Wouldn't it be creepy if 6/6/6 fell on Friday the 13th?"
"Why is the Moon out during the day? I thought solar eclipses only happened at night."
"Jesus wasn't Jewish, he was American!"

It is amazing how adamant stupidity can be too. Throw in the abusive language with that stupidity and you have a reason to think depopulation has its merits.:fpalm:

Yes. Impressive levels of stupidity combined with abusive language reminds me of politics. :p
