Simply one of the most beautiful pieces ever written. This will take you and wrench your soul.....

http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=XMbvcp480Y4

The Adagio in G minor for violin, strings and organ continuo, is a neo-Baroque composition popularly attributed to the 18th century Venetian master Tomaso Albinoni, but in fact composed almost entirely by the 20th century musicologist and Albinoni biographer Remo Giazotto.

I have posted this before.

Although not strictly classical in the sense of the word, nonetheless as a musical piece it is profound.

This I have found so far to connect to my soul and heart like no other music has.
It is a symbiosis of Bulgarian and Tuva'n (Siberia) voices/throat singing.

Huun Huur Tu & Angelite - Fly, Fly My Sadness.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4EpNuiNauH0

It requires no interpretation, the souls voice is universal.

That sent tingles up my spine. My Mum died listening to Andre Rieu.

She coughed and then passed away quickly. She was at home with her boyfriend, holding hands. Aged 90. Sitting on their couch.

Great thread, JP. Thank you.

One of my favorites...Joaquin Rodrigo's Concierto de Aranjuez (or concert of orange juice, as my 4 year old grandson calls it).

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e9RS4biqyAc

The Concierto de Aranjuez was inspired by the gardens at Palacio Real de Aranjuez, the spring resort palace and gardens built by Philip II in the last half of the 16th century and rebuilt in the middle of the 18th century by Ferdinand VI. The work attempts to transport the listener to another place and time through the evocation of the sounds of nature. According to the composer, the second movement "represents a dialogue between guitar and solo instruments, cor anglais, bassoon, oboe, horn etc.". He described the concerto itself as capturing "the fragrance of magnolias, the singing of birds, and the gushing of fountains" in the gardens of Aranjuez.

One more...heard Pavane for a Dead Princess by Ravel at Tanglewood some years ago...performed by the Boston Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Seiji Ozawa. Every time I hear it, I am transported back to a most wonderful warm summer evening enveloped by the most soothing music.

Hello Moonlight

When I was a kid I saved up and bought the full piano copy of Moonlight Sonata and though I couldn't really read music I sat at the piano for months and unpicked every note until I had learned the first movement - quite something for one so young, if I remember correctly it is in the key of C# minor (four sharps) that's probably why I later became a bass player. Lol

It occurs to me that if it was written for you then you are much older than I thought ...

P.S. Thank you for posting one of my favourite piano pieces ...

Posting this one for you, Moonlight....one of the most beautiful pieces ever composed....

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-ip64cG7gK4

...and Angela Hewitt plays it from her heart....just lovely.

John, the story you told about how hard you worked to play the first movement of Moonlight Sonata on the piano was wonderful. It reminded me of when I was very young and heard my cousin Les play "Theme from 'The Apartment'" on the piano...I cried, it was so beautiful...and I was determined that I would play that piece myself one day.

Little did I know then that I would spend the rest of my life as a pianist...and it was the thrill of playing "Theme from 'The Apartment'" on the piano myself, with all the emotion that lie buried deep flowing through my fingers, into the piano, and filling the air, that propelled me into a passion I didn't know I had within me.

Besides, Chopin, of course, Debussy is one of my favorite composers...and "Clair de lune" is one of my many favorite pieces to play. Well, there's always Mozart, whose music is playful and so much fun...

A beautiful rendition indeed Melidae - this another piece I learned as a kid. Perhaps I should have stuck with the piano. Since retiring both from work and bands, it can be a bit odd playing bass just to myself!

Thank you for posting. JP

I'm so glad this thread has been re-booted thanks John!

There's some amazing pieces already in here, I've had a great half hour and many more to come. The following piece is by far my favourite classical piece bar none. It's called Lark Ascending by Vaughn Williams. I put this on whenever I feel down, upset or stressed and it has an alchemical effect on me and transmutes all that is bad into a tearful grin of pleaseure.

It's a fifteen minute investment of your life and worth every second. It's calm and sultry, mystical riffs eventually climax but the teasing of the build up is well worth it. I dearly hope at least one of you gets something out of this.

My life can tend to be a bit stressful...not the least of which is the fact that I work when everyone else rests or plays...nights, weekend, holidays...and I miss out on the fun and camaraderie shared with family and friends in such times.

Massenet's "Meditation" from Thais helps keep the peace inside as the world around me appears chaotic. I prefer cello to violin for those moments as the sound is more mellow...as in this version with Yo-Yo Ma on cello...

Thank you for posting 'Time to Say Goodbye', JP.

It always gets me misty-eyed. Several years ago, my daughter was in a serious relationship with a man from Italy who was here on a work visa. She came close to marrying Max (a shortened version of his real name which I cannot pronounce, never mind spell) when his visa expired and he was to go back to Italy.

I was so torn...they were perfect for each other and yet they would have moved to Italy had they wed.

It was a very difficult decision for them. In the end, Max went home alone.

This song reminds me of the pain of their final goodbye...
