I make my own butter sometimes, just by purchasing whipping cream and sitting shaking it while I watch a video, and whalla ! in about 20 minutes I have a lump of butter clunking back and forth in the glass jar. I then add a bit of sea salt, shake again for a minute and then drain it with cheese cloth......yummy :)

Great idea for a thread. Real skills instead of being a cog in a machine. Love it.

I watched this some weeks back, very inspirational. This guy has 7 kids (I was thinking of you Eelco) and the basement is his only real room in the house.
He transformed an ugly basement into a rustic 'man cave' room for something just over $100. The end result is spectacular! Very creative.
(My only concern is how he breathes in there with no fresh air*).

Edit: *Just saw that he has air ducts

Hang back and watch Ray Mears build a birch bark canoe from the comfort of your own home or Wi-Fi tent. I find it extremely relaxing to watch this stuff.

How to make a wand
I'm interested that she didn't mention the possible use of Holly wood to make a wand.
Everything I ever learned included the injunction "Do not take metal into the working area" so when I make a wand, I do not include wire, or any metal parts. And something for levity: an insert packaged with every wand I make;

Love this man! He makes a fire pit for nearly nothing with stuff he's found on rubbish tips. Ozzies, please translate 'snags'. You can get a good idea from the context but would like to know the exact translation ;)

Now he makes a wine rack from rustic reclaimed pallet wood!

Do you make wands professionally?

To call what I do professional would imply commitment and focus. It's more of an as-and-when thing although commissions are respected more.

Actually, what I meant was I'm more likely to make the effort to get them finished, on time if there is a deadline.

Hi shamanseeker, a 'snag' in Oz parlance, is a sausage. As in 'throw a few prawns on the barby', 'throw a few snags on the barby'.
Barby is BBQ - Ozzies have a tendency to put an 'ie' or 'y' on everything to shorten the word.:crazy: Obviously the word 'snag' escaped this verbal atrocity:o

MAN! I've done it again...put my quote within a reply quote. Jesus H. Christ.:o
Edit to add: I have also been known to call a sausage a 'sozzy'...:getcoat::fpalm:
