Developers say users can now take photographs and share them by simply concentrating hard while wearing a brain-monitoring device

A Google Glass app that claims to let people take photographs using their mind has been launched.

The free open-source MindRDR software has been developed by London firm This Place and lets users control the device using brainwaves alone.

It is the world's first telekinetic Google Glass app, and works in tandem with a biosensor headset which measures brainwaves.

Users are presented with a display showing a line that sits in the middle of the screen.

The line moves closer to the top of the screen the more users concentrate, and when it reaches the top Google Glass takes a photo

The additional kit

A second screen is presented, where users must concentrate again to share it on social media.

This Place founder Dusan Hamlin said: "Currently, Google Glass users either have to touch it or use voice commands, which are restrictive for some social situations and for users with disabilities.

"We wanted to realise the true potential of Glass by allowing users to control it with their minds."

The capabilities of MindRDR are limited to taking and sharing images, but the creators hope that its uses could expand over time.

Creative director Chloe Kirton said This Place was "in conversation" with Professor Stephen Hawking about its potential.

Electroencephalography headsets, which measure the brain's activity, are available from around £70. Google Glass recently launched in the UK with a £1,000 price tag.

Google says the app has not been tested or approved by the company, and it will not be available through the official Glass app store.

Second generation will be something that's inserted into the eye, like a contact lense.

Then it's the slippery slope. We will get used to the tech and then it will be implanted in the body, whereby thoughts will be downloaded into the brain. Then our free thinking faculties will cease to exist. We will do what we are programmed to do. Sophisticated mind control.

End of the human species as we know it for all our glory and failings.

If we don't stop these monsters, we will become half human, half machine = transhumanism.

And then end game - humans will cease to exist. Full. Stop. And 'they' will merge with machines at the top layer echelon, to be God in their own eyes.

And if we don't resist, we will cease to exist. Simples.

Well, we are all being programmed via movies, tv etc. 'Predictive Programming', I think it's called.

I don't see why they couldn't just use trigonemtric calculations to determine what the eyes were looking at and the designate winking with the left and right eyes to be left click and right click lol.

Doesn't this seem like a form of "brain training" — people who have to get their brains on certain wavelengths to control the device will lose the others. I notice they're controlled by intense concentration and not attaining a trance or a feeling of inner peace. Eurgh, could you imagine how horrible it would be if in order to use the latest gadget you had to practice feeling a sense of harmony? Yeah...
