These gorgeous pair of red, luscious lips belong to a plant known as Psychotria elata, a tropical tree found in the rain forests of Central and South American countries like Colombia, Costa Rica, Panama and Ecuador. Affectionately, Psychotria elata is called Hooker’s Lips or the Hot Lips Plants. The plant has apparently evolved into its current shape to attract pollinators including hummingbirds and butterflies.

What an extraordinary looking plant! Love the lips, geez.

Red is my fave colour, I'd love to have a garden bed full of those lovlies growing underneath my moriya hedge.

(I've just read that last sentence back to myself, it was not meant to sound that way...crikey, I'd better quit while I'm ahead.)

I really DO have a moriya hedge in my garden.:o Scout's honour.:blsh:

Seriously though, isn't it incredible what nature evolves to? The mimicry all around us is astounding and leaves one to wonder are we the chicken or the egg here?!
