music works on your emotions.
it can quieten and calm but also give you energy.
soundtracks to motion movies give you that rush of euphoria, sadness and excitement.

let your emotions go........

this zimmer music is really fantastic.
I watch 'inception' at least once a year.
I bought a bluray copy.
I attribute much the film's power to its ethereal atmosphere.
throughout, zimmer's soundtrack sets and amplifies a sense of uncontrollable irony.
after several viewings, it washed over me -- I got the ending and wept, sobbed.
one of the best total film works, ever.
zimmer at his very best.

this may be gilding the lily, but here's over an hour of some of zimmer's best OST work.
need something playing in the background as you perform your life?
this may be it...

Café de Flore... if you have not seen the film, you may want to check it out. Its theme goes well with your other thread "would you come back?".

This song always gets me. I could listen to it repeatedly for hours on end and never fail to be moved by it. That last iteration of the chorus that begins "please say Shema" always feels so rousing, and the way Shwekey masterfully portrays the desperation of the rebbe (actually Eliezer Silver not Yosef Kahaneman) when he sings '"Hashem above", he whispered, "please don't let me fail!"' — I get all goose-pimply like a great big pimply goose! :D

Yaakov Shwekey — Shema Yisroel

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S8D1DuVmtVQ

He raised his hand to wave goodbye,
Saw the pain in mother's eyes,
Who left her little precious boy of four
In a citadel of ashen stone
That preached a faith unlike his own.
Perhaps he may just yet survive this war...

In the shadows stood a man in black.
"My child," he said, "you must not look back."
Yet one image lingered: the tears on her face
And mother's words from their last embrace:

Shema, Shema Yisroel:
Know that there is but one God above.
When you feel pain — when you rejoice —
Know how he longs to hear your voice:
Hashem Elokeinu, Hashem Echad.

Deep within the iron gate,
Far from the stench of war and hate,
He knew not of a world gone insane.
"You must believe us," he was told,
"Our faith alone can save your soul.
Please let us heal your wounds and ease your pain."
He tried not to forget his past — his home —
But he was so very young and all alone;
While visions of his shtetl, once vivid and clear,
Began to fade and all but disappear...

Shema, Shema Yisroel:
Know that there is but one God above.
When you feel pain — when you rejoice —
Know how he longs to hear your voice:
Hashem Elokeinu, Hashem Echad.

The winds of war had finally passed.
One man took on the sacred task
To bring the scattered Jewish children home.
He travelled far from place to place —
A quest to reignite the faith
Of those sent into hiding long ago...

He entered the fortress grey and cold.
"Your kind is not among us," he was told.
"Hashem above," he whispered, "please don't let me fail!"
As he began to sing Shema Yisroel:

Shema, Shema Yisroel:
Know that there is but one God above.
When you feel pain — when you rejoice —
Know how he longs to hear your voice:
Hashem Elokeinu, Hashem Echad.

Shema, Shema' Yisroel:
Know that there is but one God above.
When you feel pain — when you rejoice —
Know how he longs to hear your voice:
Hashem Elokeinu — Hashem Elokeinu, Ha-ashem E-echad.

Shema, Shema Yisroel:
Know that there is but one God above.
When you feel pain — when you rejoice —
Know how he longs to hear your voice:
Hashem Elokeinu, Hashem Echad.

Please say Shema, Shema Yisroel:
Know that there is but — but one God above.
When we feel pain — when we rejoice —
Know how he longs to hear our voice:
Hashem Elokeinu, Hashem Echad.

Hashem Elokeinu, Hashem Echad.

with an all acoustic orchestra, modern day mozart, philip glass, brings mystery and light to this period piece, 'the illusionist.'
if you haven't seen this, it's quite good. the illusionist saves his most impressive, mind-melting performance -- 'til the very end.

listen to how this music takes you back to a time when magic was mystical, a time before electricity.

Very nice jimmer, momma cardinal seemed to like it too as she came many times on my front porch as I listened to it. I also like what I saw at the end of the video... "Love is the only reality".

Mucho gracias for this nice Sunday morning gift.

moonlight, yes, it's beautiful and intriguing and surging...
philip glass works within his own 'modern romanticism' style,
although his work has varied over the years, still that surging, rushing remains throughout.
his early works were extremely avant-garde and challenging (http://youtu.be/Yt3kd_bwBDk). groundbreaking. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2CYK-OIOMXk)
now in his mature years, he has embraced a new classicism.
one of the all time great composers, for sure.
lots on YT to check out and discover.
it's amazing what you can doing working, thinking, listening to his later stuff.
doorways open...

the philip glass OST of, 'mishima.'
the opening score is foreshadowing of this poet / activist's bloody finale...

I quite like this song, though it's not in my usual style.

Brad Paisley and Alison Krauss — Whiskey Lullaby

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XJm2qV34sU4

She put him out like the burnin' end of a midnight cigarette.
She broke his heart. He spent his whole life tryin' to forget.
We watched him drink his pain away, a little at a time,
But he never could get drunk enough to get her off his mind
Until the night...

He put that bottle to his head and pulled the trigger
And finally drank away her memory.
Life is short, but this time it was bigger
Than the strength he had to get up off his knees.
We found him with his face down in the pillow
With a note that said I'll love her till I die
And when we buried him beneath the willow,
The angels sang a whiskey lullaby...

The rumors flew but nobody knew how much she blamed herself.
For years and years she tried to hide the whiskey on her breath.
She finally drank her pain away a little at a time,
But she never could get drunk enough to get him off her mind
Until the night...

She put that bottle to her head and pulled the trigger,
And finally drank away his memory.
Life is short, but this time it was bigger
Than the strength she had to get up off her knees.
We found her with her face down in the pillow,
Clinging to his picture for dear life.
We laid her next to him beneath the willow
While the angels sang a whiskey lullaby...

I don't think so. The thread title pointed to powerful music and original soundtracks so I took that to mean music in a broader sense than just soundtracks alone :-)
