Talk about synchronicity! I was talking to a student this morning about sweeteners and she told me to be careful of iodised salt too. I came across this this afternoon and discovered that there is GMO sugar in it!

‘Great April Fools’ Day prank idea: Switch up your loved ones’ sugar with salt. When they spit out their coffee and comment on the saltiness you can insist that it’s really sugar and that there’s nothing wrong, giving the prank a twisted flair.

But you’d be right – because there’s friggin’ GMO sugar in salt!

This applies to ingredients found in iodized table salt, and should concern people who are serious about allergy-inducing ingredients or who are seeking a different eating style.

While getting a natural allergy treatment for sugar I had to avoid it completely for 25 hours. At least I can flavor food with salt, I said, but was told to check the label. Haha – okay – whatever. But no, it’s true – there was sugar!

There are a few reasons why sugar or corn-based dextrose is added to salt.’

The Benefits of Himalayan Salt

Himalayan Crystal Salt

Himalayan crystal salt is far superior to traditional iodized salt. Himalayan salt is millions of years old and pure, untouched by many of the toxins and pollutants that pervade other forms of ocean salt.

Known in the Himalayas as “white gold,” Himalayan Crystal Salt contains the same 84 natural minerals and elements found in the human body. This form of salt has also been maturing over the past 250 million years under intense tectonic pressure, creating an environment of zero exposure to toxins and impurities.

Himalayan salt’s unique cellular structure allows it to store vibrational energy. Its minerals exist in a colloidal form, meaning that they are tiny enough for our cells to easily absorb.

WHY NATURAL SEA SALT?

Here in Italy we can get Atlantic salt from France in the health stores. It is a greyish colour because it isn't bleached and it is full of trace elements which are good for us. I've noticed that there is Irish natural salt, too. I haven't been able to post a lot of information on this because most of it is in the form of advertising for businesses that sell it.

"Salt is the flavor enhancer. We need it, love it, crave it. It transforms our food. Natural sea salt is unrefined, hand-harvested, solar dried, pure. Table salt is processed, stripped of all trace minerals, leaving the subtle nuances of flavor behind. The cubed texture is uniform. Iodine and non-caking agents are added to prevent clumping which lend a bitter, acrid flavor. Natural sea salt has its trace minerals left intact giving a richer, more complex flavor than table salt and there are no additives. The texture of natural sea salt varies from region to region, harvester to harvester and is surprisingly different around the world. It can be a thin crisp flake, a coarse chunk, a tiny pearl. The color can be white or grey or pink. Some salt is completely dry, some is left moist. There are many styles to choose from which opens up a world of experimentation."
