Been by there quite a few times. And I dun no dood it. Weirdly enough a hometown local became a bit of a national sensation as a Cow Mutilation researcher and expert (I saw him on PBS). Dr. Harkins, Victor I think or his brother. I never could tell them apart, I just thought that their whole family was weird!
Now that I think about it, they might have been aliens!

What might have been your conclusion about the origin of the mutilations?

Damn Wind, that is a good question. None of it makes any sense to me. When just now reading it occurred to me that in cattle country there are many people that are expert at cutting cows apart. My younger brother being one of them, among likely thousands really. The lack of blood, my first thought was of 'evaporation' into the soil. But how likely is that really? Given the details of stories not very likely. I've never been able to decide, but those stories aren't as fascinating to me as crop circles, there is a lot more science to consider with them.

I guess there were 7 of them (brothers) Victor, Wilbur, and David and 4 others. Dr David Harkins is a cattle and oil country veterinarian (Kansas)

I always found the fact that bovine haemoglobin is used in the, very human & earthly, IVF process, intriguing.
A response to the question, "if it were some government agency, why don't they just keep their own cattle?", would be, "why go to the expense & trouble of keeping cattle if you possess tech that allows you to just take what you need, when you need & however much you need without leaving trace nor clue as to who you are."
I know that LMH is the self-styled star of the cattle mutilation phenomena, but her refusal to go anywhere near the very real, and well evidenced, human mutilation cases is very telling, in my humble opinion.
Richard D. Hall has done some excellent research, along with David Cayton, regarding the whole spectrum of the mutilation field. Humans, cattle, horses, sheep, dolphins, seals.......... The list is quite extensive. I'm undecided really, leaning toward a more human-based, specialist/secretive group explanation rather than our ET brethren.
But, who really knows?

Hey Reader, I'm still remembering that excellent story you posted way back when. :)
I remain undecided, mainly because it doesn't make sense that the government would do it. They don't need to pretend anything really, they have all the tech they want. But Aliens randomly dropping bodies and carcasses doesn't make a hell of a lot of sense either.
Perhaps it is all the budding serial killers worldwide practicing their trade for when they start plying it. A good one or a bad one for that matter will start with animals. The good ones certainly practice.
