It's about time somebody took the BBC to task. But the video of the marchers, with their police escort, had me wondering ... are we really any different from sheeple? What would happen if violence erupted (for whatever reason) and more police were drafted in to control the situation?

Totally agree, Just an observation, why would they NOT think the money we give them in licence fee's is theirs to hand out to each other as bonuses and other perks when the whole government feel and do the same?
They state "We are in POWER" instead of we are here to serve the people.
They state they have taken millions out of the poverty by not taxing them on their small incomes.

Lying Bar Stewards, that doesn't include the 20% tax taken on just about everything you buy then or the 80% on any fuel you buy then or the 5% on any electricity or gas you use then, I'm sure I have missed some.
Let's make the peasants think we are not taxing them and we will take it all when they try to spend it! Criminals!!!

Let's create a tax system that has subtle hidden loopholes in it so that only our rich mates who can afford expensive accountants find out about them and can then legally avoid paying tax at all, while the peasants who are too stupid to understand it all keep paying through the nose.

Let's make anything like taking benefits off the disabled and making the peasants pay for having a bedroom they are not using at the moment, come into force almost immediately, but anything they find out about like the tax loopholes or Mp's expenses, we can put off for years with enquires and committees and hearings until they get fed up and bored with it and forget about it. like our mates at the energy companies, we will have so many meetings and hearings it will eventually go away and if we keep rubbing in how much of their money it costs to have all these hearings they won't push for anything more to be done.
Just tell them to switch to another company, we can ignore the fact that if they do it will only be a week or so before that company increases their prices too until everyone is charging the same.
After all we all have to tighten our belts and cut down to manage, why a mate only the other day could only get £6000 on expenses for heating his stables!

Give them a program on the TV called watchdog and get them to call in people from the energy companies and other rip off organisations our mates have got and get them to ask them pre determined questions and when they give a totally meaningless answer just say ok thank you and move on or let the person talk until the time runs out, the peasants will think we give a.... and are doing something about it.

I could go on for several pages

We never know what we're going to do in any situation until our number is called.

I found myself in a situation back in I think 2003 (when the world was marching against the US starting a war with Iraq). There were at least 200,000 of us marching in SanFrancisco - very peaceful, folks of every age and from every sector of society. At one point a group of policeman isolated a small group of us from the rest (probably around 30 of us, seemed to be randomly selected. They surrounded us - and then began to slowly move in - making the circle tighter and tighter. A young father with a 3 year old on his shoulders asked the policeman directly in front of him, "Hey man, what are you doing, we're just demonstrating peacefully?" Only response was to squeeze us tighter together. I could see the frightened looks on the other people in the circle. Some began yelling angrily. Another man and myself, kept telling our group not to react, as we could see how easily this could erupt into a violent situation. I saw the faces of the police, most of them looked as scared as we were, so I think if one of our group began to push them back, they would have reacted." After a few minutes, the police just back off and let us go. Was it because they didn't get the reaction they wanted - or was their purpose just to frighten us?

All I know was I was scared to death. I was 64 at the time, my son was 33. Neither of us was willing to get hit with a billy club or go to jail over this - does that make us sheeple. I don't know. Millions of people world-wide marched trying to prevent that war. Did it accomplish anything? It didn't seem to. I'm not saying we should lay down and let them roll over us, what I'm saying is: Damn it! I wish I knew a way to change all this peacefully and I keep hoping something will happen (and believing it will) to usher in this change. Will it be climate change, the Russel Brand's, the ET's, all of the above or some new invention.

I just am hopeful it will be in my lifetime. Not because my life is that bad, it's quite nice actually. So far none of the economic collapses, terrible storms, etc., have affected my life or anyone's close to me, but my heart cries out to those who have been effected and that saddens me at a very deep level, as I know it does many of you.

You're right. My words were thoughtless and you and your son have done more than I ever have.

The point I was trying to bring out was that we are opposed by forces who have had plenty of time to plan for the predictable reactions of a large mass of people. But how would they cope if we were to change our modus operandi?

I didn't think you were being thoughtless at all KosmicKat. It was a very good question - to which I have no answer other than to say in some way we are all sheeple at different levels of awakening. But being awake unfortunately doesn't necessarily give us a clue what to do.

Back in the 70's when we seemed hopelessly stuck in the war in Viet Nam and all the college students were waging sit ins, etc., what they were doing appeared useless to me - and then all of a sudden - things did shift. Same thing in the 60's over the US civil rights movement. Many courageous folks got badly beaten or even killed during that time and the situation seemed futile, but then - shift happened.

So, IMO, if the 99% shift, the 1% will shift as well - but what's difficult to predict is: Which way will each shift and how many will be hurt in the process, unfortunately we just can't seem to do it the easy way.

BabaRa is quite correct ... although don't tempt me to get started with the Vietnam era music please ... my will is weak ...

Technology has ramped up from the beast (regardless of where you think the source is) since that time.

I expect it boils down to the message from your soul and the intent ... regardless of where that may lead.
