SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – The Utah Department of Public Safety helicopter was assisting Utah Division of Wildlife Resource officers counting bighorn sheep when the crew spotted something mysterious from above.

The discovery was made Wednesday.

“One of the biologists is the one who spotted it and we just happened to fly directly over the top of it,” said pilot Bret Hutchings. “He was like, ‘Whoa, whoa, whoa, turn around, turn around!’ And I was like, ‘what.’ And he’s like, ‘There’s this thing back there – we’ve got to go look at it!’”

The crew circled back and landed the helicopter to take a closer look. They couldn’t believe their eyes.

Tucked in a red rock cove was a shiny metal monolith protruding from the ground.

“I’d say it’s probably between 10 and 12 feet-high,” Hutchings said. “We were kind of joking around that if one of us suddenly disappears, then the rest of us make a run for it.”

Hutchings said it didn’t look like it was dropped into the ground from above. It was firmly planted there.

“We were, like, thinking is this something NASA stuck up there or something. Are they bouncing satellites off it or something?” Hutchings questioned.

That said, the crew decided it didn’t appear there was any scientific purpose to it. Hutchings said it looked as if it was manmade – perhaps more of an art form than any kind of alien lifeform.

“I’m assuming it’s some new wave artist or something or, you know, somebody that was a big (2001: A Space Odyssey) fan,” Hutchings said, referencing a scene in the movie.

Because the monolith was in an area the crew feared amateur adventurers might get stuck, they were intentionally vague about its location.

The group left with pictures and videos but few answers.

Hutchings said he had seen many unusual things from the helicopter over the years, but never anything quite like this.

“That’s been about the strangest thing that I’ve come across out there in all my years of flying,” Hutchings said.

I'd type words to describe my surprise but I cannot say I am. Planet Earth has sooooooo much that is unexplained and mysterious. Know I've stated this many many many times: Someone knows the truth - they always do. Let's imagine that someone who knows what the object/device/whatever is will share information with the rest of us.

I heard it here first.:thup:

I'm now seeing reports in other places.

It's been put together with nuts and bolts or just screws. Thanks NAP! ;)

It was disappointing but truth is truth. I'm up to here with web exploitation.

Where did it go? Is there a triangular how in the ground now?

So - someone on a video tells us it is merely art. Do we believe those words or continue to ask questions? Given that there is soooooooooooooooooo much on Planet Earth that is unexplained - I'm not going to simply believe the comments of one person. I am thinking Laterally and Critically. If it is art then to build it and transport it to a remote location would take a lot of money and technology - yes/no/maybe? I cannot imagine that the art project would have been cheap, with regard to a fiscal aspect nor simple with regard to a construction aspect.

Again - I am asking questions. Is it merely art? The big question is: Why?

:) Visit an art gallery in Santa Fe, New Mexico and you'll have the answer you seek.

NotAPretender - Why not just share with me what you learned from the art gallery? You could answer my questions - yes/no/maybe? Thank You.

well, i was looking at a small paintbrush can with paint splotches of various colors on the outside - $1400

A single sculpture of which the artist had created 5 that year and sold them - $225,000 each

A nice painting that didn't really impress me - $400,000

An artist can make huge money without reservations.

A monolith could easily go for $100,000 with money to spare to plant it in the desert.

NotAPretender - Now we are having a conversation - Thank You. Still I have questions. I thought you had located the name of the artist/creator of the metal oblong. I understand your perspective on the amount of money an artist can make however I still don't know the facts. If it is an item of art and considered an installation - then who is involved and why? I have learned over the years that the world of art is tightly controlled. Look at all the interesting and thought provoking sculptures on Planet Earth in very public locations. First that springs to mind are the metallic sculptures of Earth with an Inner Earth et cetera. Only those with extreme wealth could afford to make them let alone make a purchase. Artists - in this instance a sculptor - would have to have a very wealthy benefactor - yes/no maybe?

Sure, I would be pretty certain that an exhibit like that would have plenty of interested parties for such a project.

The mysterious mirrored object was spotted by a dog walker on the island's Compton Beach.

A monolith has been spotted on the Isle of Wight - days after similar structures were discovered in the US and Romania.

Tom Dunford, 29, was out walking the dog with his fiancee and sister at 7.30am on Sunday when he saw the mysterious mirrored object ahead of them on the island's Compton Beach.

He told Sky News: "We went down the steps and to the right about 100 yards in front us we saw this big reflection of the sun.

"I knew about all the monolith stories recently, so I recognised it straight away."

It is unclear who is responsible for the installation.

The structure discovered on the Isle of Wight was around 10ft tall and "really reflective", Mr Dunford said.

"The person who put it there knows what they're doing. It's really reflective. It's someone playing a practical joke, I don't believe in any of these conspiracy theories."

It has caused quite a stir on the island, with more people going to visit it as the day went on.

Islander Lee Peckham tweeted: "Strange monolith on Compton Beach today. Any ideas?"

Mr Dunford added: "When we came back around half an hour later there were more dog walkers crowding around it - probably about a dozen.

"There's been quite a few people flocking down to see it today.

"It's something a bit different and interesting to happen at this time of year.

The first monolith reported in Utah was originally spotted by state wildlife officials who were helping to count bighorn sheep from a Utah Department of Public Safety (DPS) helicopter.

The 10-12 feet (3-3.6-metre) structure was discovered in the ground and tucked into a red rock cove, sparking speculation about how it had come to be there and attracting the attention of conspiracy theorists.

But days later, the Utah Bureau of Land Management said the structure had been removed.

An anonymous collective called The Most Famous Artist has taken credit for the Utah structure and also the one in California.

I'm starting to get curious, I wonder how many more of these might appear.

I still would bet that some artist is having fun and enjoying all the attention though.

The mirrored one is very cool ... much better than the one in Utah ... classic copycatism is what it looks like to me.

On the monolith it says "Look at the sky, see the moon" in Göktürk alphabet. (a old Turkic alphabet)

Date of discovery: February 4, 2021
Location of discovery: Gobeklitepe, Turkey

This just in, a monolith was discovered in an ancient 12,000 years old archeological site that was once the site of a holy temple. The object is seen in the video surrounded by four poles with warning tape wrapped around it to keep people from touching the object. But the most bewildering thing of all...is that there is Turkish military soldiers holding assault rifles guarding the monolith.

The turkish letters look like they say, " His (something) are the (something)" in English. They're guarding it, eh?

The crowd looked weird at first. Then I realized, all male.
