This is a really interesting story about a chimp that had very human characteristics. Now, scientists determined that he was a pure chimp after doing some genetic testing but they noted some genetic anomalies. There are those, who seem highly credible who insist that a half human half chimp was born at Yerkes lab many decades ago. It was euthanized. Boy, does that bring up ethical issues around sanctity of life, what constitutes humanness.

Something like that. It would only take a subtle tiny gene shift to move it closer to human, while still being able to insist it was completely chimp.
